Terms of Use
Effective 31 May 2026.
1. Acceptance
By using YumScan (the website at getyumscan.com and the
/api/scan endpoint), you agree to these Terms. If you
don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. What the service does
YumScan accepts an image of a restaurant menu, uses Claude (Anthropic) to extract menu items, and uses image search to retrieve a representative picture for each dish. The result is returned to you as JSON or rendered in the web app.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload images that contain personally identifying information, medical records, government IDs, or other sensitive personal data.
- Upload content you do not have the right to submit (third-party copyrighted material beyond fair use, trade secrets, etc.).
- Use the service to violate any law, infringe intellectual property rights, or harass any person or business.
- Probe, attack, overload, or attempt to bypass rate limits or security on the API or website.
- Resell the raw API output as if it were a first-party product, or claim YumScan is affiliated with any restaurant whose menu you submit.
4. AI output — accuracy disclaimer
Item names, descriptions, ingredient lists, and images are AI- generated and informational only. They are not a contract, not a guarantee of what the restaurant will serve, and may not reflect the actual recipe.
5. Images returned by search
The dish photos shown next to each item come from public image search and remain the property of their respective owners. We re-host them on our CDN solely to provide reliable previews to users. If you own an image and want it removed, email us at the contact below.
6. Intellectual property
- Your uploads. You retain all rights in the menu image you upload. You grant YumScan a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to process that image solely to operate the service for you.
- Service. The YumScan website, code, and brand are owned by us. These Terms don't grant you any right to use them beyond what's necessary to use the service.
7. Availability and changes
YumScan is provided "as is" and may be unavailable, slow, or rate- limited at any time. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service — including the API contract — without notice.
8. No warranty
The service is provided without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, YumScan and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the service. Our total liability for any direct damages will not exceed USD 50 or the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months, whichever is greater (and the service is free).
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless YumScan from claims arising out of your misuse of the service or your violation of these Terms.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the current version took effect. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction, except where local consumer protection law requires otherwise.
